Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland is grateful for her relationship with co-star Julie Bowen

Alongside her on-screen mom, Julie Bowen, Sarah Hyland also revealed to Glamor that she appreciates all the relationships she’s formed with the other women on the show, especially since most of the cast are male. Hyland said, “The show is really a male-dominated cast, so the female relationships meant so much to me. It was great to have Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara as role models because they are so funny, smart, talented and kind.” The actress also noted that she loves meeting her on-screen sister Ariel Winter — who she is beautiful, intelligent and headstrong – as well as watching her on-screen niece, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, grow into herself.

She also shared what she’s learned from her female castmates, including Bowen. On the subject of looking up to Bowen, Hyland explained that Bowen taught her how to filter herself and how to strategize what she talks about. The actress continued, “She taught me to shut up sometimes. Watching them in interviews, in work environments – really just in life – is what I find most fascinating about their brains.”
