Senator and former vice-president Hamilton Mourão (Republicanos-RS) told the column that he believed that former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) assumed a “mistake” that was not his, during his testimony to the PF (Federal Police) today ( 26).
“From the way I know him, he was out of Brazil. It wasn’t the case that he did it. It wasn’t the case”, stated Mourão.
In a statement to the PF, Bolsonaro said he was under the effects of medication on the day he posted a video after the coup acts in Brasília. According to lawyers Paulo Cunha Bueno and Daniel Tesser and his advisor Fábio Wajngarten, the former president intended to share the video with himself on WhatsApp, to watch later, but ended up posting it on Facebook.
Mourão pointed out that the “team” has made mistakes on other occasions. “Many times what happens? You are not the one who posts in your network. I am not the one who posts in my network. I have a team. Do you think I spend the whole day here?”, said the senator, showing his cell phone, laughing and with a certain irony. “Many times and, it has happened in the past, the team made a mistake”, he added.
Asked about the fact that Bolsonaro assumed he made the post, the senator said it was his duty to assume. “Of course, you have to own up to your mistake,” he said.
Bolsonaro was heard today by the Federal Police for about two hours in the inquiry that investigates the coup acts. The former president joined the investigation after posting, on a social network, a video with fake news about the elections. This occurred two days after the invasion of the headquarters of the three Powers. The video was later deleted.
