When the neighbors heard the shrill alarm signal from an apartment in the village of Rauxel, someone picked up the phone. The detector at the district control center also reported a burnt smell on 112. According to their own statements, they could not confirm a burnt smell. The experts did not see any smoke through the windows either.

But they had to be on the safe side: the fire brigade gained access to the property and checked the house. “No reason could be found for the smoke alarm to be triggered,” it said in a press release later that evening.
