The iPhone 14 continues to be the smartphone of choice for people who can afford it, with its shiny new yellow variant reviving fans’ interest. In a world far from the glamorous empires of these new Apple Stores that have just opened in Delhi and Mumbai, a huge community of geeks and fanboys have reportedly revealed the specs and features of the next-gen iPhone 15. Yes, iPhone 15 leaks are all over the internet and months before Apple reveals it to the public we already have quite an idea of what to expect. From a brand new chipset to the more common Dynamic Island, the iPhone 15 series is set to bring some mega upgrades to Apple’s flagship device this year.
Similar to the iPhone 14 series, we’re expecting four new models this year, namely the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The vanilla models will get their first major upgrades since 2021’s iPhone 13, while the Pro variants are expected to get nicer cameras. USB-C is FINALLY coming to all models this year, marking the end of the legacy Lightning connector that has powered all iPhones for over a decade.
In essence, the new iPhone 15 series will be an epic upgrade. So, here’s a look at all of the iPhone 15 leaks and rumors that have gotten through so far.
The expected launch date of the Apple iPhone 15
The beginning of September is marked by a brand new iPhone every year, with the exception of the iPhone 12 in 2020, which was pushed back to October due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So if all goes well this year, the iPhone 15 could launch in early September, with sales expected to start before the calendar moves to October.
In addition to the iPhone 15 series, we could also see new Apple Watch models and iPads. Additionally, if we’re optimistic, we can expect updated versions of the 3rd gen AirPods and 2nd gen AirPods Pro with USB-C charging cases. For its part, Apple is and will remain the mother of its upcoming lineup, at least until September.
A look at the design of the iPhone 15

Apple likes to make subtle design changes in its annual iPhone releases, and this year couldn’t be any different. Based on iPhone 15 leaks to date, all models are likely to have slightly curved edges, although they retain flat sides. The display bezels could be thinner and the rear could have a bigger camera protrusion due to the new Sony sensors.
However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman states that the iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island could replace the outdated notch design of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. Therefore, all four models could feature Dynamic Island, with slightly rearranged sensors under the pill. Unfortunately, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will likely keep the 60Hz OLED displays, reserving the silky-smooth 120Hz ProMotion display for the Pro variants. Another leak suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max could have a titanium frame instead of a stainless steel frame, improving durability.
Getting back to the display, we’re expecting a similarly sized 6.1-inch screen on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, and a 6.7-inch screen on the iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max Pro variants will get a much brighter display panel with an expected peak brightness of up to 2,500 nits. That means you won’t have any trouble scrolling through Instagram or the Augustman homepage in bright sunlight.
Another year for the buttons
Early rumors from renowned tipster Ming-Chi Kuo had indicated that the iPhone 15 series would bid farewell to the traditional power and volume buttons. The switch to capacitive buttons should help provide better water and dust resistance and improve the overall durability of the smartphone. Kuo now says technical difficulties have forced Apple to push that upgrade to the iPhone 16 Pro next year. So we’ll probably get another year of traditional buttons on the iPhone.
Physical buttons on the iPhone may have one last hooray with a dedicated action button inspired by the Apple Watch Ultra. This button can be used as a shortcut to several iPhone functions, including a camera shutter function.
USB-C is coming to the iPhone 15, but in an “Apple” way

The USB-C connector is already present on Macbooks and iPads. Now Apple is giving in to the demands of the EU (the EU will make USB-C ports mandatory on all mobile devices from 2024) and confirms the USB-C port on the iPhone 15. This will make it possible to borrow any USB-C charger from Android users, or simply use your MacBook charger to charge your phone’s battery.
However, Kuo says the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will continue to adhere to the slower USB 2.0 speeds that the Lightning connector also offers. Only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max get support for faster USB 3.2 speeds. Additionally, these iPhones are expected to only support fast charging via Apple-certified cables and accessories. Therefore, do not expect your Samsung fast charger to work its magic on your iPhone 15.
Iphone 15 leaks and rumours: New and better specs
Improved cameras
Similar to the Dynamic Island, all iPhone 15 models should have a 48-megapixel Sony image sensor for the main camera. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will also likely get a slightly smaller 1/1.15-inch sensor, while the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will have a larger sensor. Sony’s new state-of-the-art image sensor on the Pro models could also help with better exposure control (an Achilles’ heel for the iPhone 14 Pro).
The iPhone 15 Pro Max could get an exclusive periscope zoom camera. This allows up to 6X optical zoom and could further improve the quality of digital zoom. Will it surpass the 10x optical zoom of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra? Only time can tell.
A more powerful and efficient chip
Considering the dual chip we saw on the iPhone 14 series; Apple could do the same for the iPhone 15 series. This means that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus can use the iPhone 14 Pro’s A16 Bionic chip, while the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max could get the rumored 3nm A17 Bionic chip. The A17 Bionic chip offers superior performance and power efficiency than its iPhone 15 Pro predecessors and will likely be accompanied by an increase in RAM capacity to 8GB. Rumors also point to a new energy-efficient display driver chip that could help improve battery life.
iPhone 15 leaks and rumours: Exciting new colors on the horizon

A report from 9To5Mac suggests that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will arrive in a dark red hue this year, possibly alongside the black, silver, and gold models. The vanilla iPhone 15 models could also see the return of the light green hue alongside models in light blue and pink. Most importantly, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus could have a matte glass back, similar to the iPhone 14 Pro. But will we see a yellow iPhone 15? We’ll have to wait to find out.
Expected prices for the iPhone 15
You may have to pay more for the iPhone 15 Pro models! A $100 price increase will grace the Pro variants due to the upgraded features (particularly the 3nm A17 chip). Therefore, the iPhone 15 Pro could start at $1099 while the iPhone 15 Pro Max could start at $1199. On the other hand, the vanilla iPhone 15 could still start at $799 as Apple may want to boost sales for its affordable models. Some rumors even point to a lower price for the iPhone 15 Plus considering weak demand for the iPhone 14 Plus.
