Dhe golf pro Nick Bachem from Cologne achieved his first victory on the DP World Tour in Johannesburg. The 23-year-old, who only made his debut on the PGA’s earlier European tour this season, went on to win after four rounds of the $1.5 million tournament in South Africa four strokes ahead of the local heroes Zander Lombard and Hennie du Plessis.
Alexander Knappe (Paderborn), who had led after three laps, dropped back to 13th place on the final day with a lap of 73, which he shared with Marcel Schneider from Pleidelsheim.
Olympic participant Hurly Long from Heidelberg came in 32nd with 275 strokes. Bachem, on the other hand, improved after a weaker 69 on the third day and confidently secured success with 64 strokes on the par 72 course.
It was the second German victory this year on the World Tour after Marcel Siem (Ratingen) triumphed in India at the end of February. Bachem kept his nerve on the final day and came into the clubhouse without a bogey.
With eight birdies and a total of 264 shots in four days, the sports soldier from the Marienburger Golf Club secured the greatest success of his career so far.
