No more action from the Trump Grand Jury this week

NEW YORK – The Manhattan grand jury, which has heard testimony about hush money paid on behalf of Donald Trump, will not reopen that investigation this week and will further delay a possible vote on an indictment until next week at the earliest, according to two people familiar with the case .

It wasn’t immediately clear why the panel, which met Monday, wouldn’t start the Trump investigation on Wednesday or Thursday.

The grand jury has met regularly on Monday and Wednesday afternoons, but did not hold the session last Wednesday and met on other unrelated matters last Thursday. They returned to Trump Monday, but only for a short time to hear from a witness.

Trump himself has fueled expectations that indictment may be close by posting on his social media platform that he expects an arrest to be imminent. His representatives later said they received no such indication of timing from Manhattan prosecutors.

The Manhattan Attorney’s office, which is leading the investigation, has taken several steps that are seen as signs they may be nearing completion, including asking Trump to testify.

The people who confirmed no further action related to Trump was expected this week were not authorized to speak publicly about secret grand jury proceedings and did so on condition of anonymity. A message left with the prosecutor’s office was not immediately returned.

NBC News was the first to report the development.
