Outfest Los Angeles announces the winners of its Jury Awards

LOS ANGELES – The 41st edition of Outfest LA drew to a close on Sunday, but not without the announcement of this year’s festival’s big winners. Outfest spanned 11 days of screenings, red carpets, panel discussions and workshops, all aimed at celebrating queer cinema. The LGBTQIA+ film festival seeks to empower storytellers, artists and filmmakers who are often underrepresented in the entertainment industry.

And there’s nothing quite like being rewarded for exceptional work, and that’s exactly what the film festival does when it presents the prestigious Grand Jury Awards. This year’s winners are a diverse group of creatives who have proven themselves to be fearless, provocative and thoughtful in filmmaking.

The Grand Jury Award from Paul D. Lerner and Stephen Reis for Documentary went to “Anhell69,” directed by Theo Montoya. This award comes with a cash prize of US$5,000.

Other Grand Jury Prize winners include: Something You Said Last Night directed by Luis De Filippis, The Fabulous Ones directed by Roberta Torre, An Avocado Pit directed by Ary Zara, Love, Jamie directed by Karla Murthy and Dilating for Maximum Results directed by Nyala Moon.

The coveted spot of film selected for final screening went to director Sav Rodgers’ Chasing Chasing Amy, who says, “It’s the honor of a lifetime.” I love these programmers and their take on queer cinema.”

Selected award winners can be viewed on the Outfest Los Angeles virtual platform through July 30th.
