Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new parliament building today. Around 60 religious leaders were also invited to the event.
A Havan will be held around 7 a.m. in the Parliament premises in front of the new building, where the ceremonial scepter “Sengol” will be handed over to Prime Minister Modi by the High Priests of the Shaivite Order. Two short films will be shown in the Parliament building, followed by Prime Minister Modi’s speech.
The new parliament building also offers more space than the current building from 1927.
With carpets from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, bamboo floors from Tripura and stone carvings from Rajasthan, the new parliament building “reflects the diverse culture of India”.
The interior has three national symbols – the lotus, the peacock and the banyan tree – as themes.
The triangular four-story Parliament Building has a built-up area of 64,500 m². The building has three main gates – Gyan Dwar, Shakti Dwar and Karma Dwar.
The current Parliament building was completed in 1927 and is almost a century old.
Tata Projects Ltd. The new Parliament building built features a grand Constitutional Hall showcasing India’s democratic heritage, a lounge for MPs, a library, several committee rooms, dining areas and ample parking.
While 25 parties have confirmed their participation, some parties have announced a boycott. These include Congress, AAP, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Shiv Sena (UBT), Samajwadi Party (SP), Communist Party of India, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Trinamool Congress (TMC), Janata Dal ( United), Nationalist Congress Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) among others.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan tweeted the video of the new parliament building to be inaugurated in a grand ceremony by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. Shah Rukh Khan provided a voice-over in the video, with the theme music from his film Swades playing in the background.

The protesting wrestlers said late Saturday night there was great “pressure” to cancel the Mahila Mahapanchayat they were planning to do outside the new parliament building today, but they would continue the “peaceful” march at all costs.
“We will continue with the Mahila Mahapanchayat, come what may. Our supporters were stopped at a gurudwara in Ambala where they were to stay tonight. It has now been converted into quarters,” said Vinesh Phogat.
The inauguration of the new parliament building will take place today. The building will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of several dignitaries, religious leaders and political leaders.
