Negotiations for the Royal Lodge, begun under the late Queen’s reign, are ongoing. It’s understood Andrew is frustrated that talks are between officers rather than brothers – and wants that to change.
Friends suggest he could consider a compromise if Charles “does the decent thing” and speaks to his brother in person.
One said: “If Charles wants Andrew to play along and help the family through these trying times, what better way to do it?”
“Why not do the decent thing, sit down and talk?”
“If they need the house for William, maybe Andrew should be told.” Perhaps William should invite his uncle to tea and explain.
“Or why not Charles invite his brother to a meeting and ask him if he would leave Royal Lodge to help his nephew and the future of the monarchy?” And agree on a mutually acceptable schedule.
“Is a little decency that difficult?” At the heart of all this are real people.
“He just lost his mother.” Who would want to be cast out by their brother right after that?
