Priyanka Chopra revealed her rhinoplasty went wrong, leaving her feeling “depressed” and unable to work. In an interview with The Howard Stern Show, the Citadel actress revealed that in the summer of 2001 she had a polyp in her nasal cavity and her doctor advised her to have surgery to remove it.
Unfortunately, the surgery didn’t go as planned, leaving her with a “completely different” look. “While shaving off the polyp, the doctor accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose as well, and the bridge of my nose collapsed,” she recalled per insider. “When it came time to remove the bandages and the condition of my nose was revealed, mum and I were horrified. My original nose was gone. My face looked completely different. I wasn’t me anymore.”

Because of her changed appearance, Chopra was fired from three film projects. The setback left her hopeless and insecure about her acting career. “It was a dark period,” she recalls.
The 40-year-old also revealed she had a hard time leaving her home but was encouraged by her late father to undergo corrective surgery. “He said, ‘I’ll be in the room with you.’ He held my hands and helped me regain my confidence,” she said.

After setbacks from her botched rhinoplasty, Chopra eventually made her film debut in the 2002 film Thamizhan. However, her performance in the 2003 film The Hero: Love Story of a Spy helped her regain her confidence and get back in the gain a foothold in the industry.
Former Miss India World credits director Anil Sharma with giving her a chance when the odds were against her. Opening up about her ordeal, she said, “I was supposed to play this lead role and I was relegated to a supporting character. This filmmaker was very friendly.”
“While the tide was against me, he said, ‘It’ll be a small part, but give it your all.’ And I did,” she added.
The on-set experience was positive for the actress as it helped her regain her confidence and put her career on an upward trajectory.

Since a botched nose job nearly ended her career, Chopra has made an incredible comeback and found huge success in Hollywood.
In 2015, Chopra made history as the first South Asian actress to star in an American television show with her appearance on the ABC series Quantico. She played the character of an FBI recruit at the Quantico base in Virginia, and the show ran for three seasons from 2015 to 2018.
She has also appeared in several films since then, including the 2019 rom-com Isn’t It Romantic and The Matrix Resurrections. She is currently starring alongside Game of Thrones star Richard Madden in the Amazon Prime series Citadel, which has been renewed for a second season.
Chopra has had multiple corrective surgeries on her nose throughout her career. She has also learned to accept her somewhat different appearance and has come to terms with it. “Now when I look in the mirror, I’m not surprised anymore,” she shared. “I’ve made peace with this slightly different me.”
