She became part of CBBC’s flagship news program, Newsround in December 2002. Horne was part of the bulletin team and the main reporter alongside Lizzie Greenwood-Hughes, Thalia Pellegrini, and Adam Fleming.

Initially, Rachel presented a spin-off program called Newsround Showbiz until its axe in 2005  because of poor ratings. She left Newsround in 2006 and joined BBC Two’s flagship business program, Working Lunch.

Horne was a member of the team as its business reporter from May 2006. Rachel remained on the program until its relaunch in 2008. In the following year, Horne became part of BBC News Channel’s Business News team.

She went on maternity leave in 2012. After her return, she presented Monday to Thursday throughout the afternoon as well as evening. In 2012, it was announced that the BBC News Channel’s business bulletins would be axed as part of the Delivering Quality First scheme. As a result, Rachel left the channel for a time after the move to the New Broadcasting House. She reappeared on the BBC News Channel in 2015 presenting the business and presented regularly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
