Runner-up takes a turn and continues bad start to the year
Number four in the world and current vice-champion of the Masters 1000 in Miami, Florida, Casper Ruud follows his bad start to the new season. Early this Monday, the Norwegian was eliminated in the third round.
Ruud lost to the Dutch Botic Van de Zandschulp, in 32nd place, by 2 sets to 1 with partials of 3/6 6/4 6/4 after 2h50min of battle that closed the programming of the center court of Hard Rock Stadium.
The Nordic, runner-up at the US Open and Roland Garros, had a break in the second set and at the beginning of the third and lost a truckload of unused break-points. The Dutchman turned after being 1/3 down in the third and saving breaks in the third game to avoid a second break.
Now there are eleven games in 2023 and only five wins for the Norwegian who continues without winning in a row in the same tournament.
Zandschulp faces Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori in the Round of 16.
