Santos and Bahia faced each other on the night of this Wednesday (17), at Vila Belmiro, and ended up in a goalless draw. The match was valid for the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil.
Peixe even scored in the game, with the young Deivid Washington. The arbitration, however, signaled an adjusted impediment for Lucas Pires, author of the cross for the attacker. VAR drew virtually equal lines, but confirmed the goal annulment. In the end, goalkeeper João Paulo worked harder than Marcos Felipe.
phew, ONE CHANCE
Only 15 minutes into the first half did a good opportunity arise in the match. In the wake of a corner kick in favor of Peixe, goalkeeper Marcos Felipe, from Bahia, quickly replaced the ball for Vitor Jacaré to launch the counterattack. Biel received it on the left, cut to the middle and finished, but goalkeeper João Paulo made a good save.
BETTER TRICOLOR, AND JOÃO PAULO SAVES AGAIN
While Santos sought to squeeze the ball out of Bahia, coach Renato Paiva’s team took advantage of the ‘holes’ left between the midfield and the black and white attack, in addition to managing to escape the pressure. At 22′, after a free-kick, the northeastern team had the surplus, David Duarte received a cross, shot and João Paulo appeared again to save Peixe.
GOAL (MAL?) CANCELLED AND JP ONCE AGAIN
At 33′, Santos threatened more effectively. Dodi made a good play in the half moon and played for Lucas Pires, who crossed low for Deivid to push to the back of the net. The left-back, however, was millimetrically in an illegal position, according to the assistant, and VAR confirmed the annulment of the goal. Shortly afterwards, Bahia responded with Cauly, who sent a bomb from outside the area, and João Paulo, once again, ‘flew’ and defended.
UGLY BRUSH
About 20 minutes into the second half, referee Sávio Pereira Sampaio had a head collision with defensive midfielder Rezende, from Bahia, and was bleeding profusely. The judge put on the swimming cap to stop the wound.
LOT OF STUDY
Peixe started to exchange passes with greater verticality and put more pressure on Bahia, but practically did not create clear chances in the second half. Tricolor continued to take advantage of counterattacks and even had another good chance with striker Biel, who finished outside.
HAD TIME TO ALMOST OPEN THE SCORE
The game was lukewarm, however, at 50′, striker Bruno Mezenga made Marcos Felipe work. Inocêncio crossed, and the striker went up and tested for the goal, but the goalkeeper made a great save in the left corner. In the end, the teams didn’t take the zero of the scoreboard.
SEQUENCE
Santos has a classic against Palmeiras this Saturday (20), in Vila Belmiro, at 9 pm. Meanwhile, on the same date, Bahia receives Goiás, at Arena Fonte Nova, starting at 4 pm. Both matches are valid for the 7th round of the Brasileirão.
