SC Potsdam wants revenge against Stuttgart

Potsdam. The SC Potsdam volleyball players want a quick revenge. In the first play-off final for the German championship, they kept up well with MTV Stuttgart, but lost 1:3. “We will now try everything in the home game to equalize in the final series,” announced SCP board member Toni Rieger before the second encounter between the two teams on Saturday (5 p.m. / live on Sport1).

The general conditions are right. The MBS Arena in Potsdam is almost sold out, trainer Guillermo Naranjo Hernandez is available with the exception of the long-term injured winger Fleur Savelkoel (cruciate ligament).

But Hernandez is also aware that the defending champion from Stuttgart is difficult to defeat. “This is the best team in Germany,” is the assessment of the 45-year-old Spaniard, who worked as head coach for Stuttgart from 2013 to 2017 and then took over the job in Potsdam in 2018 after stops in Romania and Poland.

A lot will depend for the Potsdam women on whether they can better control Stuttgart’s top attackers Krystal Rivers and Simone Lee this time. The two Americans scored 45 of the 92 points for their team in the first final game.

On Wednesday, both teams will meet in Stuttgart for the third game in the Best of Five final series. SC Potsdam is also quite relaxed about this away game with the favorites. Captain Laura Emonts says: “We love playing there. The atmosphere pushes us more.”
