Schenefeld. A woman from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is specially after Schenefeld drove in the district of Pinneberg to gold and jewelry handed over to scammers. The 69-year-old became a victim of so-called shock caller. The police again warn of this scam.

In that case, around 11 a.m. on Friday, the woman received a call from a crying woman, posing as the victim’s daughter, who said she had killed someone in a traffic accident.

Then an alleged lawyer took over the phone call and explained that bail of 75,000 euros had to be paid by 3 p.m., otherwise the daughter would have to go to jail. The 69-year-old stated that she did not have such a sum. Instead, she offered gold and jewelry as substitutes.

The alleged lawyer accepted and instructed the woman to hand over the valuables to his alleged secretary. The handover should take place near Hamburg. The address given to the woman was a parking lot on Nedderstrasse in Schenefeld and an alleged insurance number.

The 69-year-old believed this story, drove to Schenefeld and met a woman there who pretended to be the secretary of the alleged lawyer. She is said to be 40 to 50 years old, about 1.60 to 1.65 meters tall and slim.

The woman, who spoke German without an accent, was wearing a long, dark jacket with a belt and a scarf. After taking over the gold and jewelry, she left in an unknown direction.

After a phone call with the real daughter, the scam was exposed

A little later, the 69-year-old phoned her real daughter, and the dizziness was noticed. The Kripo in Pinneberg is investigating the case and is looking for possible witnesses who observed the handover around 2:30 p.m. on Nedderstraße. Information on this under telephone 04101/20 20.

The police warn of such calls and recommend hanging up immediately. It is a nationwide phenomenon that is committed in different places by the perpetrators. Most seniors become victims. The calls often come from Turkey, and valuables are picked up by messengers on site.

There are different tricks that the perpetrators use. Grandchild trick scammers pretend to be relatives, grandchildren or good friends and ask for a larger sum of money because of an alleged emergency or financial bottleneck.

False police officers, for example, warn of a planned burglary. They offer those affected to have money or valuables taken to a “safe place” by a detective.

Other scammers come with stories that the callers received counterfeit money that needs to be verified.

Criminals are also lured into the trap with promises of prizes for which a processing fee is incurred – or with the legend of close relatives who, after serious accidents they are responsible for, face imprisonment if no “deposit” is paid.
