Four days after the defeat at the German basketball champions Alba Berlin, the Rostock Seawolves were also shown their limits at co-favorite FC Bayern Munich. Head coach Christian Held’s team lost to the cup winners on Wednesday evening by 76:108 (29:57) and left the field as losers for the 17th time in their 31st Bundesliga game. The chance for the promoted team to qualify for the playoffs after staying in the league has thus fallen further. The best pitchers were JeQuan Lewis and Till Gloger (14 points each)
Munich (dpa/mv). The best pitchers were JeQuan Lewis and Till Gloger (14 points each)
The Munich team lived up to their role as favorites in the first few minutes and got off to a 7-0 start. Lewis then scored the Seawolves’ first basket. The hosts then remained the more effective team and extended their lead to 21 points by the middle of the second period. Mecklenburg briefly managed to reduce the deficit to under 20 points, but then Munich pulled away again.
After the change of sides, the spectators in the Munich Arena got to see a different Seawolves team. Rostock fought their way up to 14 points from the hosts. But it shouldn’t be enough for more. Munich then turned up the heat again and inflicted the Held team’s heaviest defeat of the season so far.
