Sergey donated over $1 billion to Parkinson’s disease research after his mother was afflicted with the disease in 2008. Currently, the family foundation is doing research under the supervision of the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
He was born in Moscow, Soviet Union to Russian Natives who immigrated to Maryland, USA. Brin’s family also resided in Vienna and Paris before arriving in the United States when he was nine months old. His family arrived in the United States in 1979 through the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. Segery attended the Paint Branch Montessori School in Maryland and graduated from Eleanor Roosevelt High School. He then attended Stanford University, where he earned a degree in computer studies. Brin also continued his education and earned his master’s degree at Stanford thanks to a National Science Foundation fellowship.
Sergey began his entrepreneurial career after meeting Larry Page at Stanford. Larry and Brin initially disagreed on topics, but they eventually became intellectual friends. While in college, the two started their computer project to create a usable search engine. Larry turned Brin’s dorm room into a programming office, where they worked all hours of the day and night to web crawl and develop Page Rank algorithms and backlinks. They also experimented with HTML to speed up the search engine development process. Larry and Brin’s hard work eventually paid off, and they launched Google as a software multinational program.
