Northern Irish actor Ray Stevenson (“Rome”, “The Boat”) is dead. His agency confirmed on Monday that he died on the Italian island of Ischia on Sunday.
The agency did not provide any further information. Stevenson was 58 years old. The industry magazine “Deadline” recently reported that Stevenson will play the leading role in the film “Cassino in Ischia”.

Stevenson had his breakthrough as an actor with a leading role as a Roman legionnaire in the TV series “Rome” (2005-2007), later he was among other things in several “Thor” film adaptations as Volstagg, one of the best friends of the eponymous Marvel hero see.
As the musketeer Porthos in “The Three Musketeers” (2011) alongside Matthew Macfadyen and Logan Lerman, he thwarted the scheming Christoph Waltz, in “Vikings” (2020) he played the mysterious seafarer Othere.
Stevenson also stars in the Star Wars spinoff Ahsoka
Last year Stevenson starred as naval officer Jack Swinburne in the third season of the German series Das Boot. According to the industry magazine Deadline, he was most recently cast as the leading actor in the historical drama 1242: Gateway to the West.
He can also be seen as human Force user Baylan Skoll in the trailer for the not yet released “Star Wars” spinoff “Ahsoka”. (dpa)
