The Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) found overpricing in the purchase of Viagra pills by the Armed Forces, made between 2020 and 2021, and ordered the return of R$ 27,800 to public coffers.
The drug was purchased by Hospital Naval Marcílio Dias, in Rio de Janeiro. In all, more than 35,000 Viagra pills, a medicine for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in men and also for pulmonary arterial hypertension, were purchased.
According to the process, one of the eight auctions held by the Navy purchased each pill of sildenafil citrate, the drug’s active ingredient, for BRL 3.65, although the average value on the federal government’s price panel for the period was BRL $1.81. The TCU’s Secretariat for External Control of Logistics Acquisitions calculated that the Navy’s notice resulted in a loss of BRL 27,820.80 to public coffers.
The case of the purchase of Viagra by the Armed Forces gained repercussions in April last year, when it was revealed by deputy Elias Vaz (PSB-GO), responsible for opening representation at TCU, along with senator Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO).
IN RESPONSE TO A REPRESENTATION MADE BY SENATOR JORGE KAJURU AND FEDERAL DEPUTY ELIAS VAZ, THE TCU FOUNDED THAT THERE WAS OVERBILLING IN THE PURCHASE OF VIAGRA BY THE ARMED FORCES AND REQUESTS A REFUND OF THE MONEY! https://t.co/TskMNo1UAm
