The BBC has nominated Sophie Ellis-Bexter as Britain’s nominee for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest

BBC bosses want singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor to become Britain’s nominee for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Harsh criticism of the group follows after this year’s pick, Mae Muller, finished penultimate in last week’s Liverpool final.

An established artist with hits like ‘Murder On The Dancefloor’, Sophie, 44, reached new audiences during lockdown with her hit ‘Kitchen Disco’ videos, which earned her a Radio 2 show of the same name.

The mother-of-five is said to be under scrutiny over her participation in next year’s program as BBC bosses regain full control of the selection process for Britain’s accession.

In 2021, they turned the role over to an outside company to reverse the poor performance of the UK suitors.

A music industry source told The Mail on Sunday: “At the moment there is only one artist on the BBC’s list for Eurovision 2024 and they have no intention of adding to it.”

“Sophie Ellis-Bextor is seen as the ideal candidate for the competition – she is a great singer and performer and is already well known to audiences, both straight and gay, across Europe.” to get elected this year was pretty intense.”

Ms Muller was chosen to appear in last weekend’s Eurovision final by global management company TaP Music, who also chose 2022 entrant Sam Ryder, who finished runner-up.

Ahead of the finale, Ms Muller’s doubts grew as her voice was criticized for not being strong enough to carry the song ‘I Wrote A Song’ she sang. Their rehearsal was full of mistakes and had sound problems.

A string of old quotes implying she hates Britain angered some.

There was also controversy when she said Boris Johnson should not have been given a hospital bed when he fell ill with Covid.

It also emerged that she had applied for a German passport, which she said was intended to help her cut down on additional paperwork when performing in the EU.
