The death of Alex Murdaugh’s housekeeper and the lies he told

In federal court documents filed May 1, 2013, Alex Murdaugh admitted that he made up the story to guarantee an insurance payout in the case. “No dogs were involved in the fall of Gloria Satterfield on February 2, 2018,” the documents said, according to The Independent. The files are part of an insurance fraud lawsuit filed by Nautilus, the company that paid $4 million for the claim. The money, intended for Satterfield’s adult children, reportedly went into the pockets of Murdaugh and others involved with the scheme.

This is just one of more than 100 white-collar crimes the ex-lawyer and convicted murderer is facing. Police and prosecutors said it was the forthcoming revelations about his financial crimes that led to Murdaugh killing his wife and son on June 7, 2021 to buy time and compassion for himself. Instead, everything rushed in, opening the doors to reveal years of shady dealings and suspicious deaths linked to the Murdaughs.
