Spring is sending us the first warming rays of sunshine these days. For fans of good music, this is an unmistakable sign that the big festivals are about to take place. Also this year, a large fan community will travel through the country to celebrate exuberantly. The biggest festivals are Rock am Ring and Rock im Park, but there is also a big festival to experience in Stuttgart.
The mother of all festivals in Germany: The Rock am Ring
Around 100,000 people make the pilgrimage to the Nürburgring every year and celebrate a big party on the weekend after Pentecost. This year’s stars include two old masters of the rock scene. The Foo Fighters have been touring festival stages around the world since 1994. This year they only perform twice in Germany, on June 2nd at the Nürburgring and on June 4th at Rock im Park in Nuremberg. After the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins, it was questionable whether the Foo Fighters’ performance would actually take place. In the meantime, however, the band is said to have found a replacement.
The other big band at the two festivals are Die Toten Hosen, who will be performing at the Nürburgring on June 4th and at Rock im Park on June 3rd. It’s also the only appearances in Germany for Die Toten Hosen this year. In addition, they appear at festivals in Linz, Bern, Schaffhausen and Blackpool. Most recently, the punks from Düsseldorf got involved with a benefit concert for the earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria.
Tickets are still available for both events taking place from June 2-4, 2023. The best place to stay overnight is the campsite, which is located directly on the festival site. If you want to prevent bad weather, you can come by caravan and at least have a dry place at night if it rains. When the weather is nice, the campsite is the best place to find new joy. What could be better than sitting around the campfire until dawn and singing the songs of the idols…
Kesselfestival goes into the third round
However, music fans don’t have to travel far to experience good music. The Kessel Festival will take place in Stuttgart on June 24th and 25th, 2023. At the second edition, 50,000 visitors were already counted. This has made the festival one of the most important in the country. As in the previous events, the visitors can look forward to some top stars in terms of music. But there are also some unknown artists to be discovered. If you can do without the headliners, you can still get well-known bands for the daily price of 9.90 euros.
No way Lisbeth is a Berlin band that was founded in 2006. One of the biggest successes was winning an “Echo” for the video “Bitch”. With the current album “EZ Aquarii” the musicians made it to number eleven in the German charts. Behind YAENNIVER is another well-known artist, namely Jennifer Weist. As the frontwoman of the band Jennifer Rostock, she has long been a fixture on the German rock scene. The Norddeutsche is currently touring the country solo. Bilderbuch is one of the most successful German-speaking bands from Austria. Originally started as an indie rock band, influences from art pop and hip hop can also be heard today.
Rappers as headliners
If you want to experience the headliners, you have to pay a little more money. Apache 207 does the honors for that. He is currently in the German charts with Udo Lindenberg and a new version of the hit “Komet”. Also top-class are Jan Delay, Rea Garvey and Clueso.
