Directed by Tomas Alfredson and written by Peter Straughan, Hossein Amini, and Søren Sveistrup, The Snowman is a 2017 psychological thriller movie. It is an international co-production between the United Kingdom, United States, Sweden, and Japan, based on the novel of the same name by Jo Nesbø, published in 2007. The film features a star-studded cast including Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Val Kilmer, and J.K. Simmons.

The plot revolves around Inspector Harry Hole, who is in pursuit of a serial killer that leaves snowmen at his crime scenes. Shooting started in Norway on January 18th, 2016, before moving to London and Sweden. The Snowman premiered on October 7th, 2017, at the Haifa International Film Festival, and was released in the United Kingdom and Sweden on October 13th, 2017, and in the United States on October 20th, 2017, by Universal Pictures.

Although it grossed $43 million worldwide, exceeding its $35 million budget, the film received negative reviews from critics. It was often described as “clichéd and uninvolving.” Many of the issues were attributed to the film’s rushed production schedule Alfredson.
