Number 81 in the world, Thiago commented on his victory in the important tournament, over his opponent 70th in the ATP.
“Very happy with the victory. I feel that I had been working well and that I also had a good performance in Indian Wells, but there, the victory escaped my hands. Here, I remained firm in what needed to be improved”, said the Brazilian tennis player.
“It was a tough game, against a solid guy, but I managed to be consistent and play with the same solidity from start to finish. The tie-break was complicated. to be able to play my best tennis and win those important points.”
This was the first Masters 1000 main draw win for Thiago. “Playing here is like being in Brazil a bit, with lots of Brazilians and huge crowds, so it’s a joy to win my first Masters 1000 victory here.” Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, sixth in the world, will be Thiago’s next opponent.
