Tory Lanez’s sentencing has been postponed to August 7 after the rapper appeared in court on Tuesday after his attempt to have Judge David Herriford suspended from the trial failed.
After a tangle of legal semantics, it seems Megan Thee Stallion is finally closing the Tory Lanez chapter of her life, as the rapper was ordered to return to court for the hearing of the verdict on Aug. 7 when he appeared in court on Tuesday.
Defense attorneys Jose Baez and Matthew Barhoma have until August 1 to submit their sentencing recommendation. Lanez could receive a 20-year prison sentence under California’s minimum sentences, but prosecutors have recommended the judge that Lanez serve 13 years in prison for the three felonies.
That’s six years for first-degree assault with a semi-automatic firearm, four years for having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and three years for firing a firearm in gross negligence. The first two sets will likely happen at the same time.
Tory Lanez grew a beard in prison
A drawing by court artist Mona Shafer Edwards shows the “Luv” rapper in a new look as he wore his orange jail jumpsuit with a wooden cross hanging from a jute string, a full beard and what appears to be a black kufi brimmed beanie that worn by Muslims.
Meanwhile, Tuesday’s hearing was brief and the Tory’s legal options are now expected to have been exhausted.
The rapper previously filed a motion for a new trial alleging, among other things, that his advice was ineffective, and later filed a motion to disqualify Judge Herriford alleging that the judge exercised bias when he rejected the request for a new trial. The judge had dismissed the defense’s attempt to present new evidence at the hearing that led to the filing of the motion.
