Tucker Carlson announces program on Twitter, and Elon Musk now wants ‘left’ – 05/10/2023 – Nelson de Sá

Already close to 90 million views, Tucker Carlson returned to Twitter to announce the resumption of his program, on Twitter itself – which he describes as “the last great platform, the only one, that allows freedom of expression”. He states that “it’s not a partisan site, everyone is allowed here”.

Citing “television” in general and, by name, the New York Times, the former presenter launches an attack on Anglo-American journalism, including, without naming, Fox News, which fired him:

“The news you consume is a lie. Facts were withheld on purpose. There are always limits [do que noticiar] and if you run into those limits frequently, you’ll get fired for it. Every person who works in English-language media understands this. The rule of what you can’t say defines everything.”

As expected, the video provoked a wide reaction among Anglo-American journalists. Increasingly in the role of “publisher” of Twitter, Elon Musk rushed to set limits for Carlson:

“On this platform, unlike the one-way street of television, people can interact, criticize and refute whatever he says. And, of course, anything misleading will receive Community Notes. I want to make it clear that we have not signed any agreements. Tucker is subject to the same rules and rewards as all content creators. I hope that many others, particularly from the left, will also choose to be content creators on this platform.”

HOPE FOR JULIAN ASSANGE

In addition to Lula, the Prime Minister of Australia, the Labor member Anthony Albanese, took advantage of his trip to London to defend the freedom of Julian Assange, on the ABC network. He is held in London’s Belmarsh Prison because Joe Biden has asked for his extradition.

From Albanese: “That’s enough. This needs to come to a conclusion. The US government is certainly very aware of the position of the Australian government.” Conservative opposition leader Peter Dutton now agrees: “This is going on too long. The issues need to be resolved. If the prime minister is charting a path towards a solution, that is good.”

In view of the declarations, the American ambassador, Caroline Kennedy, met with the group of parliamentarians Friends of Julian Assange, “raising hopes”, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
