UP issues draft reserved seat notification for mayoral elections

Happiness:

The Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday released a tentative list of reserved seats for mayors of local bodies and heads of local councils and nagar panchayats for the three-stage city elections.

“The draft notification has been issued for the reserved seats. Objections to the list of reserved places were raised within seven days,” Urban Development Minister AK Sharma told reporters in Lucknow. The list was issued for reserved seats for mayors of 17 municipal bodies and heads of municipal councils and nagar panchayats. The government objected to the draft within seven days of April 6.

The state cabinet on Wednesday approved an ordinance amending the Uttar Pradesh Municipal Corporation Act and the Nagar Palika Act, which has been submitted to Governor Anandiben Patel for approval.

The mayoral seat of Agra has been reserved for SC (women), Jhansi for SC, Shahjahanpur and Firozabad OBC (women), Saharanpur and Meerut for OBC, and Lucknow, Kanpur and Ghaziabad for women, according to the draft notice.

Eight mayor seats of Varanasi, Prayagraj, Aligarh, Bareilly, Moradabad, Gorakhpur, Ayodhya and Mathura-Vrindavan will not be reserved, the minister said.
