The final decision should be made this year. The works council has full confidence in VW CEO Thomas Schäfer.

After the start of Oliver Blume as VW-CEO Last year, the plans for a new factory building in Wolfsburg-Warmenau put on hold. The planned new Trinity model could also be manufactured in the existing plant in Wolfsburg, it said. However, not as originally under Blume’s predecessor Herbert Diess planned from 2026, but only from 2028. The reason is delays in software development. However, investments would also have to be made in the main plant, and the factory would have to be converted to the new SSP production platform.

“Stop Trinity” continues to annoy VW and Wolfsburg

Thomas Schaefer, the boss of the VW brand and has been in office for almost a year, favors this solution. In an interview with “Automobilwoche”, he now explained: “I would prefer integration. Because I believe that that would be the better solution from an economic point of view.” VW expect, “then we probably have enough space there and can integrate the vehicle into the plant,” said Schäfer. However, both options are still open. The decision as to whether VW will build a new plant for the Trinity in Warmenau – cost calculations for the construction have so far been around 2 billion euros – or whether it will go to the main plant is to be made this year.

Works council good to speak to Schäfer

When asked, Schäfer apparently also had the utilization of the parent plants in view, which has long left something to be desired. The brand boss explained: “It is important to me that we successfully transform our Wolfsburg plant and secure jobs at our headquarters in the long term.”

The works Council appears to have full confidence in the company’s management on this issue. When asked by our newspaper, a spokesman for the employee representatives said: “As always at Volkswagen, we will choose the path that best combines profitability and job security.” Mr. Schäfer and his teams, the spokesman went on to say, had made a good start . “Also because they take co-determination with them. We’ll keep going like this,” he said with conviction.
