“My nephew, Brayden Bahme, died from an injury sustained at school.
“As you can imagine, this is a tragic loss and his parents and siblings appreciate your grace in giving them time and space as they grieve.
“They asked that instead of spreading sadness and anger, that we share love and our fondest memories of Bray.”
In a message that some called cold-hearted, the school said: “While it’s important to give everyone an opportunity to experience grief, it’s also important to maintain as normal a routine as possible when it comes to school activities.
“There can be a variety of reactions to the unforeseen loss of Brayden, and the reactions to the loss are not time-bound.”
