Left-back Fábio Santos spoke about Corinthians’ difficult moment after the 2-0 defeat by Atlético-MG, for the first leg of the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. The experienced player said that the team has to change its posture in the games and said that the team “has to get back on top”. In this fourth season, Timão completed six games without winning, with four defeats and two draws in the period.
“We have to change our attitude, but it’s hard to put it into practice. We have to learn game after game, we don’t train, we don’t recover. Defeats hurt, we’re giving in. It’s about not giving up and continuing to work”, said Fábio Santos in contact with reporters at the Mineirão.
The player also evaluated Corinthians’ performance against Galo. Timão gave possession of the ball to the home team and speculated on counterattacks throughout the match.
“It was our game strategy, we know it’s difficult to play here. We really had moments when we couldn’t play, there’s no shame in giving the pass back. We defended ourselves well in the first half and in part of the second. In games like this we can’t We lost our concentration, that’s what happened. We missed the mark and we conceded those two goals. Now it’s time to rest, it’s not the time to complain but to show our face. It’s good to play here when we’re winning, but we have to show our face in those moments. We have to get back on top”, added Fábio.
With this result, a tie in the return game already eliminates Corinthians from the Copa do Brasil. To qualify in normal time, Timão needs to win by at least three goals apart at Neo Química Arena, on the next 31st. Victory by two goals takes the confrontation to the maximum penalties.
Now, Corinthians will face Flamengo next Sunday, at 4 pm (Brasília time), for the seventh round of the Brasileirão. The game will be played at Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro.
