What Happened to Courtney Coco?
On October 4, 2004, the remains of Courtney were discovered in an abandoned building in Winnie, Texas. Although her cause of death was ruled a homicide, the exact cause could not be determined due to the state of her decomposed body. Her mother, upon receiving the news, was in disbelief and felt as though it couldn’t possibly be her daughter.
Seventeen years later, on April 13, 2021, David Anthony Burns was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in relation to Courtney’s death. Burns was the former fiancé of the victim’s older sister, Lace Evans, and is believed to have killed Courtney during an attempted robbery. During the trial, it was revealed that several witnesses testified about Burns and Courtney’s secret affair.
Following his conviction on October 31, 2022, Burns was sentenced to life in prison without parole on November 28, 2022. While justice has been served, Courtney’s family continues to grieve the loss of their loved one.
