What Happened to Shai Gilgeous Alexander Eye?
During the do-or-die Play-In game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, had to leave the game after receiving an elbow to the face. While trying to prevent an alley-oop to Rudy Gobert early in the third quarter, SGA was accidentally hit by Gobert in the face while he was recovering the ball.
As a result of the incident, the Thunder star had to be taken off the floor in excruciating pain. However, he returned to the game shortly after, albeit with a swollen right eye. Gilgeous-Alexander is the Thunder’s top scorer, so his absence would have been a significant setback for the team.
He scored 32 points in the team’s first-round Play-In victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, and the team was hoping for a repeat performance from him against the Timberwolves. Hopefully, the hit to his face won’t affect his performance too much as the Thunder attempt to make a comeback against the Wolves, as SGA is crucial to the team’s bid for the eighth seed in the West.

Who is Shai Gilgeous Alexander?
Shaivonte Aician Gilgeous-Alexander, also referred to by his initials SGA, is a professional basketball player from Canada who currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
He played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats for a year before starting his NBA career. In the 2023 NBA All-Star game, SGA was named an All-Star and finished the season ranked fourth in the league in scoring with an average of 31.4 points per game, leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a play-in berth.
In the 2018 NBA draft, Gilgeous-Alexander was selected in the first round by the Charlotte Hornets as the 11th overall pick but was immediately traded to the Los Angeles Clippers for the 12th overall pick, Miles Bridges.
During his rookie season, he helped lead the Clippers to the playoffs and was honored with a selection to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Subsequently, in July 2019, he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder, where he became the leading scorer for the team in 2020, exceeding expectations and leading the team to the playoffs as a 5th seed, where they went on to play 7 games in the first round.
