What will become of the river pool project in the Spree Canal?

The coalition decides: an outside staircase and a fountain should make the surroundings of the castle more pleasant. It will be difficult for the river pool.

The black-red coalition agreement sets the direction for three hotly contested projects in the historic center of Berlin around the reconstruction of the palace: the palace fountain, the flight of stairs to the Spree Canal and the possible river pool there. All three projects are interrelated and full of ideologically charged debates. Berlin can now assume that it will actually get two new attractions. The coalition agreement states: “The public space on the Spreeinsel is to be upgraded with the Freitreppe project, and a fountain is to be erected at the historic site of the Neptune fountain.”
