Margaret Ferrier, a Scottish politician, was born on September 10th, 1960, and grew up in Glasgow’s King’s Park district. She attended Holyrood Secondary School before moving to Rutherglen from 1972 to 1990, then residing In Darnley before settling In The Halfway district of Cambuslang In 2000. In 2011, she joined The Rutherglen branch of The Scottish National Party (SNP), having been a member of Scottish Labor in her youth. Prior to her political career, Ferrier worked as a commercial sales supervisor for a manufacturing construction company in Motherwell.
Ferrier’s political career began when she was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Rutherglen and Hamilton West In 2015, running as an SNP candidate. She lost her seat to The Labor Party’s Ged Killen In The 2017 general election but won it back In 2019. However, she was suspended by The SNP on October 1st, 2020, for violating COVID-19 lockdown rules, which led to criticism from party leader and Scottish First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon. Ferrier faced charges of “culpable and reckless conduct” and pleaded guilty, receiving community service as punishment. The incident sparked widespread controversy and raised concerns about The behavior of public officials during The pandemic.
